A message from Doug…

10/25/2004

I shot this video back in April right before they went on a trip to Hawaii. When they returned from that trip, my father became ill and passed away unexpectedly in October. This video, shot way before even the hint of sickness, really says more about my father than I could ever write. I’m very sorry for those that never got to know him….

I have to say that this is a lovely video. I wish I had done one of my Mom, but she died in 1991 and video blogging wasn’t even a thought then. It’s nice to see your Dad divulging his philosophy on life and death. I hope you had that party he wanted! 🙂 Nonetheless, I know how hard it is to lose a parent (both, actually) – but he seems like the kind of Dad who’d make sure you knew he was still around in Spirit. O:-)

i’m glad that i’m surrounded with people that are grounded and mindful to look at this existence for what it is. At times we get bogged down with the normal life wear and tear that we forget to live. if anything, the passing of our loved ones shakes us to wake up.
    Peace and blessings

I was suprised to see you had decided to post this as your first videoblog. It is very bold and personal. Thank you for sharing. It is also a great example for people how they might use this technology in a way that is important to themselves. A personal history archive, family album..really interesting.

This was an amazing and powerfully emotional video blog post and I feel privileged to have been invited to watch it. My parents are getting older and I think this is a great idea for capturing their essence for future generations. I am sorry for your loss. On the positive side, it looks like your father made his peace long ago. I feel bad for your mother, who is clearly uncomfortable with the discussion.

It’s been a while since I stopped by your page. Great videos. The one of your father was especially touching. Peace.

Wow. My pops and moms went to be with the AtomHolder (the Triune One), too. But I WISH I could have had either of them giving THAT kind of “testimony” of their vision of eternity! Your father, Doug, reminds me of MLKJ, who also had a sense of his time, when he said in his last speech in this realm, “Like anybody I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will.” My mom has been in the Hebrews 12:1 crowd since 2001, but I was just thinking (deeply) about her today (2005). God bless you greatly in your memories of him. May the memories of our parents increase and be redeemed in all who think upon them.
